Clementine Nadorcott Mandarins

The Afourer or Nadorcott mandarin is the most recent mandarin variety known; it comes from a mutation of the Murcott, originating in Morocco. The Valencian Institute of Agrarian Research is currently studying a variant of the Afourer, but it is not marketed.

There are three Murcotts that are identical:

  • The normal one (alternate-bearing and with seeds).
  • Murcott Seedless, 7 seeds per fruit
  • Afourer, 4 seeds per fruit and 20% seedless fruit.

It is a late mandarin, in perfect condition to harvest in mid-February, with its harvest extending until April or May since it keeps perfectly on the tree. It is a very productive variety and the alternate-bearing factor does not exist; it produces every year.

The fruit is an almost intense red colour with a very attractive natural shine. The colour fades if left on the tree, but it does not affect the juice, which is of great quality and quantity; the size of the fruits is 60-65 mm. It peels very well, making it a draw for children.
