Tolerant Seedlings

At present, the great economic damage to citrus plantations worldwide is caused by viruses, such as the massive death in Spain of trees produced by the TRISTEZA virus, causing more than 8 million dead trees.

Virus-free trees are more vigorous, respond better to fertilization, react better to bad weather, improve fruit quality and are more productive.

In the case of citrus, the Valencian Institute of Agrarian Research is in charge of cleaning the varieties, dedicating itself to the maintenance of the mother trees of all varieties, which are periodically controlled for health and variety.

Once the seedling is obtained and before being pulled up, it is identified by means of a colour code to avoid possible mixtures in handling. Only the rootstocks that meet the required development standards are given an official certificate label, where the variety, the rootstock, clone, nursery, as well as the health status of the variety are clearly specified.
